A fascinating immersion in the workshop of an exceptional embroiderer
What does “embroidering” mean? What are the techniques of embroidery? The director, Aurélie Martin, takes us to the heart of the creations of an exceptional embroiderer.
Nadja Berruyer accidentally slipped into a profession that had almost disappeared. Her talent is quickly recognized. She works in Christian Lacroix’s studio and for the film Brodeuses where she lends her nimble fingers to actress Ariane Ascaride. Folies Bergères, Opéra Bastille, advertising, cinema, Nadja also embroidered the green clothes of Academicians before devoting herself to her creations. Very far from “lady’s work”, her embroideries can be read on both sides and takes on volume. Nadja enjoys exploring raw material and salvaged objects. In addition to glass, mother-of-pearl or metal beads she plays with old francs, tiny bolts or mechanics. Aurélie Martin gently and precisely films this centuries-old art in a film filled with gems and wonders, where artisanal know-how is transcended to an art.
